TRAINING TIP OF THE DAY: Taking A Puppy On A Walk

Taking a puppy on a walk isn’t just about getting them some exercise—it’s a crucial part of building a strong foundation for obedience! 🐕🚶‍♀️ Whether you're teaching leash manners, exposing them to new environments, or allowing them to explore, walks provide an excellent opportunity for training and bonding.

Here’s how to make the most out of each walk with your puppy:

✅ Start with short, calm walks to help them focus.

For a young puppy, it's important not to overwhelm them with long walks right away. Start slow, and keep the walks calm to help your puppy learn to stay focused and enjoy the experience.

✅ Use treats or praise to reward good behavior.

Positive reinforcement goes a long way in training. Reward your puppy for walking calmly by your side, not pulling, or listening to commands. Treats, toys, or verbal praise can help reinforce the desired behaviors.

✅ Gradually introduce distractions like other dogs or people.

Once your puppy is comfortable with the basics, begin introducing distractions like other dogs, people, or traffic noises. This helps teach them how to remain calm and focused, even when they’re excited or nervous about their surroundings.

Remember, consistency is key!

Every walk is an opportunity to reinforce important lessons and help your puppy become more confident and well-behaved. The more often you practice, the faster they will learn.
